Every day most of us use a number of mobile devices. While these devices have grown to a part of our routine, the part that I dislike most is charging or having to wait for a device to charge to use it. There are an insane amount of portable battery packs available on the market that can solve this problem and make it easier to use our device while it charges and extend its battery. It is however very rare that you see a company so transparent with their product and process of production.
Thus I introduce you to Spor, A portable rechargeable battery pack capable of charging itself with either the mini .5w solar panel or plug in to a wall outlet or computer usb. There are many pros to the Spor, first and foremost as I have mentioned transparency. Below you will see that they give you full stats on the battery pack and the mini 0.5w solar panel thats at the top of the unit, most other companies exaggerate the charge times on the solar panels however Spor gives you an upfront number that actually seems reasonable( I am not a electrical engineer however it seems likely true) a 50hr charge time in the sun for a full charge of the Spors battery. The Spor is also customizable, you can print your own housing for the Spor( if you own a 3d printer of course) and make it fit your lifestyle. Daisy chaining, if you pledge for multiple Spor units you can connect them together and add to the capacity of the unit. I do hope they will reach their $300k stretch goal or decide to release that extra 5w solar panel to help charge our Spor faster. If you decide to back them, please leave a comment on their campaigns comment page that you found their project through IamABacker.com , Thank you.

How We Made Spor
First we evaluated the market. We found more chargers than we could count but they usually fell into two main groups. 'Too Little' (cheap backup charger or key-chain variety) or 'Too Much" (bulky and expensive)

We think we designed a better one. Here's what went into it.

We designed Spor to be super simple: components packaged in an easy to assemble way. Three components (Battery, Panel & Circuit). But we needed to find the best ones.
So we had to test them...

We found:
- Cells were cheap but too fragile
- Some modules had easy-to-scratch coatings
We Chose:
- A small, monocrystalline module with durable matte epoxy coating

We found:
- Batteries that were too small/weak
- Batteries that were too big/heavy
We chose:
- A 5,200 mAh Lithium Ion battery with built in PCB protection

We found:
- Circuits with solar but only one USB port or circuits two outports butno solar recharging capability
- Electronics manufacturers don't expect their products to be opened but with some finese (force) you can pretty much open anything
We chose:
- A board with 2 outports, inports, solar charge controller, and logic that allows them to work together

In an ever evolving shell

To land on a solid product
That's simple, powerful and universally useful

With great accessories

3D Printability: Why not?
We started out by designing the prototypes of our shells and having them printed byshapeways and i.materialise. Both were awesome! After doing initial tests on our Bukobot 3D Printer, Makerbot Replicators, and a Z-Corp powder printer, we realized these shells weren't half bad! If you don't care about the somewhat rough finish of today's 3D printers, you could print your own shell in whatever color or material you can find.
We believe the future is to let you make it the way you want. That's why we want to give you the option to view our designs or make your own on shapeways andi.materialise to have a beautiful and unique shell that houses great components for your Spor.
And the Ability to Daisy Chain

Use of Funds
Funds raised through Kickstarter will help us bring Spor to life. We will need to coverupfront costs such as tooling for injection molded shells and minimum order quantity thresholds of suppliers. Spor's bill of materials will need to be tweaked formanufacturing and production engineers will need to be brought on to review the product. Once built, each unit will need to be tested and certified to assure what we have built is safe and reliable. At the end of it all, we will be able to deliver a great product that you helped build.
Stretch Goals

Thank You!
Thank you for helping us bring Spor to the world. Your support is something that we couldn't do this without. Thank you, thank you, we could thank you so much so we'll say it one more time, THANK YOU!
And as always, a special thanks to planet earth.
